fuzzyjelly @ 9:40pm: Book Review
I'd like to start posting book reviews to keep track of what I've read.  Might not be more that "loved it" or "hated it", but we'll see....

First, the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer:

FANTASTIC!!!

This is a young adult series about a human girl who falls for a vampire boy.  It may sound corny and overdone, but I assure you, it rocks.  I read all four books about 4 days.  That's almost 2600 pages!!  I could not put it down.  The first book is being released as a movie in November.

Go read them!

jmaynard @ 4:13pm: More naked consumerism
My customer this week is just a few miles away from an Apple Store. Sure enough, once I found out, I had to go in and look at the iPhone 3G. I wound up buying a 16 GB black version. It's not fully set up yet, as I'll need to get it next to the home system to do that, but it's more usable than I was expecting - since I'm now syncing my contacts and calendars with the office Exchange server, and the iPhone just sucked all of that right in. Whee.

Now to figure out what to do with the old one...

Sandusky -> Cleveland
Leave time: um, maybe 8:45ish? I actually took a ride to the first rest stop due to a combination of bike computer screwing up, waking up late, and sore legs making me not get started before they closed the start at 8:30.
Arrive time: 3:42pm
distance: 65.842
max: 26.5
avg: 13.5
time on bike: 4:51:57

I have very interesting sunburns due to missing some spots with the spray on sunscreen. My thighs and knees are on fire. I'm not yet certain if I will do this again, mostly due to the time commitment involved.

I need to get together the writeup to all my sponsors, but that might not happen till tomorrow, heh.

tygerdsebat @ 7:53pm: Bike got another bike shop seal of approval.

distance: 4.592
max: 33.7 (I don't think I remembered to reset that... :/)
avg: 13.1
time: 21:02 (part of that time it was on the rack :P)
tygerdsebat @ 7:02pm: Tomorrow is the MS150 (Pedal to the Point). Tonight I picked up my rider number and turned in my info packet. Froggy talked to the peeps about volunteering and was basically told "just show up". We forgot to ask about camping in the 'Tek, but I'm betting it won't be a problem...hope I'm right.

Gotta pack up a bag tonight, thinking about trying to get a quick checkup on the bike JIC.

Remember, you can still donate!

The folks at City Pages put up another slideshow, this one from my photo shoot for the cover picture. Really neat. Check it out.

jmaynard @ 8:47am: The Gang of Three strikes again...
There have been a few comments about me on the City Pages story that are blatantly false and libelous. They assert that I'm legally disqualified from owning firearms because of a history of mental illness and violence, and that I was once institutionalized for it. There is no truth whatsoever to these stories.

They're posted by folks from Texas who hold a grudge against me because I helped thwart their takeover of a ham radio organization, the Texas VHF-FM Society. The whole sordid story is on the web at my Gang of Three site. This is in line with their standard way of doing things: make up names to post blatantly false and derogatory statements about others so they can hide from the legal consequences. They're cowards who won't stand behind their words, and merit only contempt from those with integrity.

Their first attempt was swiftly removed from the City Pages site. Their current attempt will be shortly, too. So will future postings of the same nature.

bleakenigma @ 1:38am: I am sore and I am tired. I would love another day tomorrow to rest, recuperate and get back onto some sort of same sleep schedule. I really do have work that needs to get done, though. Ugh.

noweb4u @ 11:44pm: I'm all over the place here guys, so sorry if it's hard to stick with what I'm saying.
I'm alive, so is Becky.

We're doing well.

Last weekend, we played with virtual go karts on the wii with one set of friends, then drove real ones with a different set.

Please register to vote. Do it. Now. Yes, now. Procrastinating on this is not something you want to do, as most states have a requirement that you be registered for at least 30 days prior to the election. If you don't know how, visit the website of the candidate that interests you the most, they all have a link on their site to register to vote. If you don't want to do that, here's a lengthy form that is universal and contains the specific rules for all 50 states.

Felons can vote in most states once their sentence is complete. If you need to know more about felon disenfranchisement, and whether it applies to you, or someone you know, here's a good summary

No updates on 1+1=3.

We had a taco and meteor party last night. It was pretty sweet.

My sister's baby is cute. She had it over a month ago, but this is topical because Saturday is her baby shower.

My 10 meter rig needs to have its mic fixed, and then I'll be on HF. Still just a tech, but if I can find the interest, maybe I won't be for long. :)

I made a number of life simplifying accomplishments at work in the last week or two. Maybe later this year I can actually take some time off. That'd be awesome.

I thought this was interesting. I don't hate the guy, I just think he did something stupid. If he succeeds, more power to him. Either way, from everything I've heard, this makes sense. (I am not quoted, anonymously or otherwise, in that article, for the record)

tygerdsebat @ 11:00pm: I'm so behind on everything right now.

congrats to [info]daemon82 and [info]towerboy (hope I got the lj names right).

I always come back from vacation more overwhelmed than I was when I left...I have to find a way to decrease stress.

Back to work tomorrow.
bleakenigma @ 10:31pm: Hangover
I can't really call this a post-con hangover. Maybe more of a whole-life hangover.
tygerdsebat @ 4:37pm: Back from Vegas
Things went ok. I'm still not fully functioning after sleeping most of the day away. I fear I'm going to get sick from many factors, but hope it holds off till after ms150. I also need to force myself to make some doctor appts.

I didn't get enough sun in vegas. Was hoping to boost up the tan a bit before the bike ride so maybe I won't burn as much. Oh well.

Perhaps I'll write something down about my trip so that I have it to reference later.

jmaynard @ 8:24pm: That didn't take very long...
The City Pages story hit Fark not too long ago. The comments are mostly more of the same (though I'm amused by the subset that accuses me of giving Farkers too much credit by equating them to 6th graders), but one sharp-eyed commenter noted "That's not an AK-47. It looks like an NHM-91 by Norinco."

He's almost right. It's an SA-85M. The Bulgarians did a better job of cloning the weapon than the Chinese did, IMAO.

If I decide to buy another nasty eeeeevil "assault rifle", however, it won't be an AK clone, but an AR-15. Those scare gun grabbers even more than AKs, and are a better weapon all around.

jmaynard @ 5:27pm: City Pages story is up online
The City Pages story, titled Being Tron Guy, is now available online. It's the most in-depth anyone has gotten about me since the Tron Guy story broke across the net.

There's also a slideshow with pictures that didn't make the paper, and a blog entry by the reporter complete with video from the flight we took in my airplane. Aside from getting Orvan Ox's name slightly incorrect, it's all very good stuff.

The folks at City Pages did a fantastic job, overall. I'm quite pleased. Go check it out.
